FRP resins and gel coats can be applied via all methods of spray guns; air atomized, (least efficient) airless, air-assisted airless and non-atomized (most efficient).

Catalyst delivered by and through an air atomized gel coat outfit is intimately mixed with the resin so the sprayed film is a clear and air free gel coat. External catalyst delivery is clearly visible to the operator.
